A Darn Good Read!
“If you like dogs, hiking, mountains or outdoor adventure you’ll like this book!”
End to End is the True-Life story of a 3 week/275 mile backpacking trip in the Green Mountains of Vermont. With her two beloved dogs as her only companions, the author walked from Canada to Massachusetts, in the trip of a lifetime.
This is a beautiful story that will engage the reader with its poignancy, honesty and humor as the author struggles with the physical challenges of the hike as well as the bigger issues of love, life and commitment.
Whether you are a backpacker, a casual day hiker or an arm chair adventurer you will enjoy this book. Beautifully illustrated with 40 color plates of photos and maps, “End to End” is a great read, a great hike and a wonderfully told story of a Journey that everyone will recognize as having traveled in part at one time or another.
End to End- the Trek
In 2016, at the age of 58, the author drove 3,500 miles across the country, leaving her job, husband and 6 furry dog/kids at their home in California. With two dogs as hiking companions she hiked from one end of Vermont to the other, a 275 mile trek on the Long Trail, down the spine of the Green Mountains. And then she came home: renewed, revitalized and empowered to live life on her own terms.
This is their story. It is a story about being a late middle aged woman facing the reality that her years of good health and easy mobility are foreseeably finite, a story about traveling 7000 miles with 2 dogs as constant and wonderful companions and about appreciating the gift of their incredible friendship and what they brought to the journey, and about understanding the terms of their commitment to each other. It’s a story about processing the deaths- and the lives- of her parents, and of honoring them by reclaiming her own life. Lastly, it’s a love story too, of course.
