December Blue Sky Blues

The December Blue Sky Blues

Call it what you please, but all this blue sky and sunshine is getting downright dreary.

It won’t be long before you’ll start hearing the “D” word a lot out here on the left coast. Drought. It’s one of my least favorite words. Our local weatherguy calls it “discouraging.” I call it disgusting. Call it what you please, but all this blue sky and sunshine is getting downright dreary.

I’m finally getting the hang of doing a long exposure!

On my walk today I decided to focus (my lens) on the beautiful waterfalls and cascades along the creek down in the canyon behind our house. They nearly dried up during the last period of drought, before we were granted the lucky reprieve by last winter’s storms, before we all heaved that collective sigh of relief that our dry days were over. I thought it might be a good idea to take some photos while I could, just in case they disappear again.

Waterfall as seen (literally!) through the eyes of Pippi!

The creek looks pretty flush right now, flowing nicely, with lots of mud and moss.

I am not the only one who appreciates wet weather.
Golden Globes
Can’t stop for a photo right now, got places to go, things to do, and eggs to lay.

This little Red Eft salamander seemed pretty happy with the cool moist conditions along the bank of the creek, although I don’t think she was too thrilled about being plopped into the middle of an unscheduled photography project with an obnoxious alien. She was definitely on a mission that did not involved getting her portrait taken, or else she was just camera-shy. (Sorry old girl- I just couldn’t resist those glowing golden eyes!)

The waterfall in January 2017 had a thunderous roar!

Last spring this creek was a raging torrent- too full and dangerous for me to even think about getting too close with the furry kids along. Even from our living room we could hear it thundering in the canyon down below. It sure would be nice to hear that thunder roar again in 2018. Please? Let it snow?!

The waterfall looks way too mellow on December 28, 2017
